I laid mine surface on concrete in the hot sun for two days after placing weights on both ends. This worked perfectly for getting the roll out of the goods and getting it to lay flat. Other reviewers have talked about using hot water or the oven to soften up the roll, which would probably work just as well (but be Very faithful if you use the oven!) You need to take a sharp knife to run along the channel opening, since it is slightly molded together while the manufacturing process, but this is no ifs ands or buts done and closes up perfectly after the cable(s) are inserted into the channel. The duplicate sided tape works well to derive the channel flanges and to derive the goods to (in my case) a wood floor. I don't know how well that tape would work on carpet. The goods is fairly easy to cut, just be outpatient and keep at it in small "bites."
